DIBRUGARH SESSION
2001
The Dibrugarh session would be presided over by Mr. Homen Borgohain a writer of repute.
The 1st session would be inaugurated by Mr. Lummer Dai , a fiction writer in Assamese of Arunachal Pradesh .
W.L. Smith an Indologist from University Of Sweden, Stockholm will grace the session as the " Chief Guest ".
The Second Day of the session would be addressed by Lt.Gen.(Retd.) S.K.Sinha , Governor of Assam . Mr. Sisir Kumar Das , Tagore Professor of Delhi University would attend the session as the " Guest Of Honour"
Third day session would be addressed by Mr. P.K. Mahanta , Chief Minister of Assam . On the same day the presidents of the diffrent language association and a few re known writers of Eastern India would grace the session as the distinguished guests . Moreover the Ex President of the Sabha would attend the all the 3 days as Honourable guest .
This time a special session will be held to give out prestigious awards of the Sahitya Sabha to the awardees . Mr. Rohini Kumar Kakati , a distinguished fiction writer will grace the session as the chief guest .
Besides all the sessions mentioned above there would be history session , literacy session , symposium, poet's meet and cultural evenings. For a detail schedule ; interested person can contact reception committee office or at the E- mail : sabha@postmark.net.
This time the Session would be a five-day session to be started with the meeting of the Central Executive Committee on the first day. The Sabha's flag which carries symbols of knowledge, creativity, Assamese culture in the broader perspective of Indian culture and the motto "Chira Chenehi Mor Bhasha Janani" i.e. "My ever beloved mother language", a line from the opening song of the Sabha, composed by Mitradev Mahanta, an Ex-president of the Sabha.
On the second day the flag will be hoisted by Sri C.P.Saikia, the outgoing President, in a colourful ceremony. It will be followed by 'Smriti Tarpan' i.e. paying homage to the writers of the past. The next programme would be inauguration of the Book-Fair, to be followed by the inauguration of the Exhibition ground. The agenda then would cover unveiling the 'souvenir' and the new titles of Asam Sahitya Sabha.
In the afternoon the Delegate-Session would be held under the Presidentship of the outgoing President.About two thousand five hundred delegates of the branches are expected to turn up. In the evening the cultural meet would be inaugurated. This year the Reception
Committee is giving emphasis on both traditional folk cultural items along with classical dance, drama and music. The cultural programmes will take place every night during the session .On the 3rd day; the ceremonial procession with the president elect. will take place. It is expected that people from all communities would take part with their traditional costumes and with dance and music. The Procession would be, it is expected, one of the most attractive programmes of the session.
